So, that was much longer than expected. If you read my last post, you know that I’ve been struggling through another round of writer’s block. I haven’t written about beer in about six months now.
I’m hoping I just needed to get that last piece off my chest and can now focus on writing about beer in a way that feels a bit more hopeful and optimistic. We’ll see, I suppose.
The last six months haven’t been completely dry, though. I’ve been able to write quite a bit about my family’s history with a doomsday cult in the 1980s, and my walk south from Santa Cruz to confront the cult’s leader 30 years later.
I think I’ll start posting some of that content here in 1,000- to 2,000-word chunks for paid subscribers. These will probably be in rough form — they’re first drafts, after all. If you’re already a paid subscriber, you can read the first post in that thread under the title The Farm, Part 1.
Going forward, I’ll likely keep this format: beer-related content will remain free, while more personal or off-topic writing will be for paid subscribers.
Optimistically, I’m hoping this helps me stay on a regular rhythm of one or two beer essays, and one personal essay per month.
Thank you for reading this far, and thank you for your patience as I continue to figure out my own brain.
Best,
Ben
