The September Rest
the month that got away from me
Hello everyone,
I’m happy to report that we’ve survived yet another rapture.
I wanted to apologize for the silence over the past month; September has been eventful. I have definitely been productive—just not in the ways I had planned.
I started working in the brewing industry again. I’m now the General Manager for Sacramento’s oldest surviving brewery, New Helvetia Brewing Company. As most of you know from experience or from reading my posts, keeping a brewery alive these days is no easy task. I’ve been struggling a bit to find my work-life balance as I yet again try my best to navigate a crumbling industry.
August and September were both filled with birthdays, weddings, and celebrations. As a consequence, I now have a backlog of Beer of the Moment essays to write for you.
Still, I have been finding the time to write. The next piece in the doomsday cult series is an essay about my family—particularly my parents—and the events that led them to joining a cult all the way out in Tucson, Arizona. This essay has proven to be a little more complicated to write because the events didn’t involve me. It’s required me to untangle a knotted mess of memories from the brains of my mother and sister over the past two months. I’ve almost got it straightened out, I promise.
I also have the bulk of the next Effigy in Retrospect written and ready to go out. I thought I had finished it, but a conversation with my friend Jesse reminded me of an entire chapter of the story that I had omitted from my memory.
The end of the month is only a week away, and I owe you all quite a bit of writing. I better get to it.
Hopefully, you’ll be hearing from me again shortly.
Cheers, everyone.

Some of us are patiently awaiting the next installment:)
